Professional Piano & Drums Educator
Maxwell is a current student at University of California San Diego and has been playing piano since the age of three. With over 15 years of piano experience and a strong background in jazz and popular music, as well as classical training, Maxwell is passionate about helping students discover both the joy and discipline that music can bring. He understands firsthand how impactful quality instruction can be for students learning music for the first time and strives to create an encouraging and engaging learning environment for every student.
In addition to piano, Maxwell has studied composition for over 12 years and has extensive ensemble experience, including jazz trio, big band, percussion ensemble, and symphonic orchestra. He has also trained in voice for 10 years in chamber, gospel, and classical genres. His musical background further includes three years of drum set performance focused on jazz, swing, and shuffle styles, along with experience in traditional hand drumming, mallet keyboards, and auxiliary percussion.
Maxwell’s accomplishments include being awarded the Mater Dei High School Scholar Performing Artist of the Year, receiving Distinguished Ensemble Member CETA Awards, and earning the Quincy Jones Musicianship Award. He was also recognized as an Orange County Performing Artist of the Year nominee and Outstanding Member of the Marching Band. In competition, Maxwell placed second in the California State Band Championships for musical performance and earned first place in percussion at the Orange County Invitational California State Band Competition.
Through both performance and teaching, Maxwell is dedicated to sharing his passion for music and helping students grow in confidence, creativity, and musicianship.
