Alyssa R.
Professional Strings Educator
Alyssa is a cellist and music educator originally from Connecticut and currently based in the Bay Area. She began playing the cello at age nine, and her early experiences performing in cello choirs deepened her love for the instrument and its unique power and beauty.
Alyssa is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Music at the University of California, Berkeley, with a minor in Education. She has experience teaching students of various ages and skill levels through private cello lessons, school-based instruction, strings summer camp, and volunteer music programs.
In addition to teaching cello, Alyssa has worked extensively with children through tutoring, ski instruction, and after-school programs, which has helped her develop a patient, supportive, and adaptable teaching style. She enjoys helping younger students build confidence, step outside their comfort zones, and grow into creative, well-rounded musicians.
As a performer, Alyssa has participated in orchestral and chamber ensembles, including the Wallingford Symphony Orchestra, UC Berkeley Symphony and Philharmonia Orchestras, University Baroque Ensemble, Vienna Summer Music Festival, and Celli@Berkeley.
Alyssa balances structured technical development with flexibility, incorporating a variety of musical styles. She also enjoys playing duets with students, using collaborative music-making to develop listening skills, confidence, and a sense of connection. She believes in the power of music to bring people together and foster meaningful relationships through shared musical experiences. Her goal is for students to leave lessons feeling accomplished, motivated, and connected to music in a meaningful way.
