Professional Piano Educator - NY

Sergio Cordero is a Puerto Rican pianist, composer and music educator based in New York City. His repertoire spans the traditional classical canon, Latin American concert music, contemporary music and a range of popular genres. 

Sergio won First Prize in the Piano Competition and the Interdepartmental Concerto Competition at the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, earning the CulturArte/Evertec Scholarship. He made his orchestral debut as soloist with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra in 2020. In 2024, he participated in Carnegie Hall’s city-wide festival Nuestros Sonidos as part of an NYU concert featuring only Latin American piano music As a recording artist, in collaboration with Emanuel Olivieri, he made two albums of danzas by Manuel Gregorio Tavares, which include several premiere recordings. 

Sergio holds a Master of Music in Piano Performance and an Advanced Certificate in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from NYU Steinhardt, where he studied with Eduardus Halim. He also holds a bachelor’s degree and a graduate diploma in Piano Performance from the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, where he studied piano with María del Carmen Gil and composition with Alfonso Fuentes Colón.
