Professional Strings Educator

Hi, I’m Stephen! I’m a guitarist and instructor, based in Seal Beach, California. I have been teaching for over 5 years and have experience in teaching guitar and orchestra with kids in many cross cultural contexts in Asia and Polynesia. I also have a background in gigging and session work for over a decade. 

I believe learning an instrument should feel encouraging from the very first lesson. I teach students of all ages and levels from complete beginners picking up a guitar for the first time to more experienced players looking to sharpen their skills and find their own voice on the instrument. My biggest passion is seeing students experience the joy of music as it was introduced to me at a very young age. I hope I can return that favor to as many people as possible. 

My approach is patient, personable, and built around each student’s goals, whether that’s strumming favorite songs, learning fingerstyle, classical, jazz, pop, blues and rock. Regardless of the style I also simultaneously build a strong foundation in the music theory that is applicable in most musical settings. I work hard to keep lessons relaxed and enjoyable, so students stay motivated and look forward to practicing.
